The SPF Scoop with Supergoop

As of 5 o'clock today, I will be on vacation time, and I'm so excited about it. I haven't taken an extended vacation for quite some time and let me tell you, I really need it! I don't know how life gets so crazy, but you've gotta take that time to remind yourself to slow down and catch your breath! Soon Adam and I will be with my family biking through the pines! While packing for a trip isn't the most fun thing in the world, but it's so important to pack essentials like sunscreen when you're headed for adventures in the sun!

Supergoop! has some of the most fun and innovative options I've seen when it comes to sunscreen. Now more than ever, I make sure I'm protected from sun damage. It's just not worth the consequences later on! I think of those years back in college when I laid in a tanning bed and it makes me cringe. Raise your hand if you now rock a faux tan!

I hate using sunscreen mainly because it always feels greasy, sticky and overall leaves me a streaky mess! I got to try out a few of Supergoop's newest products and I'm so glad I did! I've completely changed my tune. Each product, while equal in quality, is so different and oh-so effective.

I'm a huge fan of their Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil, it gives my skin that wonderful dewy look. The spray nozzle works really well, but I also make sure to give it a good rub into my skin for a nice even application. It's got a whopping 50 SPF, which is great for my fair skin. It contains Meadowfoam seed oil, which reinforces your skin’s natural lipid barrier, enhancing moisturization and helping to prevent moisture loss due to dehydration from the sun’s rays. After a few hours my skin still feels soft, smooth and moisturized.

Something I always forget about when it comes to sun protection are my lips. While I'm normally rocking a shade of red lipstick, I love Supergoop's Perk Up Lip & Cheek Treat for when I don't want to work too hard at applying the right amount tint on my lips. It's got 40 SPF and is a universal, buildable pinky shade that makes it perfect for lips and cheeks alike.

The Super Power Sunscreen Mousse is such an interesting concept for sunscreen, but really fun to use! It's light as air, has blue sea kale to provide antioxidant protection, and a blend of shea butter, olive and avocado oils that leaves your skin nourished and moisturized. Going in the water? No problem. It's also water resistant for up to 80 minutes.

Last but certainly not least, is something I don't leave the house without applying. Supergoop's new Defense Refresh Setting Mist is the last step in my makeup application, and such an important one! Seriously, I use it every. single. day. This multi-tasking product provides a matte finish mist that sets make-up, controls oil, and delivers UV protection. It's effortless to use, and I even had Adam use it when we were in Arizona because the rays were so intense I didn't want him to get burned! I've been using their setting spray with rosemary in it for about a year now, but this new spray nozzle delivers a finer mist that takes the cake!

Thanks so much for the goodies, Supergoop! I love all of these products – they're packed and ready for my trip! It's never been easier for me to feel protected from the sun's rays and love a product so much!

You Just Got Bloomed

I'm singing it from the rooftops right now, it's FRIDAY! Not just any Friday, but one that marks the beginning of a four day weekend! I don't know about you, but it's been one heck of a week. I guess that's only natural when a long weekend is in the near future! I love all that the Fourth of July has to offer. Food, friends, family...fireworks! Big things are also in store for Pike Petals...I've got some REALLY exciting news on the horizon but I can't share it with all of you just quite yet! What better way to kick off the weekend than bringing you this beautiful bouquet? Prepare for floral spam, friends!

I teamed up with Bloom That to bring this vibrant beauty to the streets of Seattle. Known as The Lola, this arrangement is a smattering of all things summery and full of joy. Sweet pastel roses, both large and spray, mix with calla lilies, snap dragons and one very large raspberry-colored protea. This bouquet is sweet with a little bit of spice.

If you haven't explored Bloom That's bouquets, you're missing out. These babies arrived on my doorstep as fresh as can be. If you caught my Instagram story last week, you saw how adorable the box they arrived in was! The opening flap said "drumroll please" and once you opened the box it said "day made". The typography/design nerd in me was super excited.

As per usual, Seattle weather started out gray and hazy in the morning, but finished with a beautiful, show-stopping sunset. In a way, this perfectly describes my ensemble. I love how this monochromatic outfit brings out the true colors and beauty of the bouquet! It's almost like the punctuation at the end of a sentence.

My dress, which was a serious score from Forever 21, is technically a mini dress but has these amazing front and back panels that make it both work appropriate and super unique! It's sleeveless, so I paired it with my trusty leather jacket while I was indoors at work.

I don't wear my Converse enough! Normally I'd finish this look with a pair of stilettos, but I wanted to keep it casual and fun. My look stays grounded and a little unexpected. Athleisure is all the rage now, right?

Special thanks to Bloom That for providing me with this show-stopper of an arrangement. I loved toting it around with me, and it arrived display-ready with the perfect vase. The blooms lasted well over a week and I was so sad to see them go! I guess that just means it's time for a new gathering, right? I hope you all have THE BEST Fourth of July, light a sparkler, mix up a festive cocktail and live a little!

Good Hair Days Ahead: Verb Haircare

The summer sunshine is here, and the sea is calling my name! I'm so lucky to live close to the beach here in Seattle (within walking distance, actually) and while it isn't the coast of California, there's nothing like a cool breeze and the sound of waves crashing on the water to put me at ease. I'm all about that wind-whipped hair in the summertime. Especially on the weekends, where day trips and mini-getaways reign supreme, my daily routine gets a little less precise, and more carefree and easy going.

Verb Haircare's new Sea Collection is a match made in heaven for summertime. This kit is all about waves + texture, making it perfect for getting the most out of my natural hair. My hair has always been a problem child. I've got semi wavy, semi straight, semi I-don't-actually-know-what-the-heck-it's-doing hair. I've fought it through the years. Remember the days when straighteners were just starting to be a thing? Yeah, my poor, coarse hair was not a fan no matter how hard I tried to force it! Luckily I've mastered how to correctly straighten my hair at this point, and have invested in a good straightener. Thank god crimpers aren't making a comeback...yet.

The first step to great hair is of course, how you treat it. Verb uses only the good stuff in their haircare, meaning every product is cruelty-free, with no harmful sulfates, parabens or gluten. This is a total win for me. Also, did I mention every product is $14? Second win. I don't like overpaying for great results.

Their Sea Shampoo and Conditioner are a one-two punch. They work to cleanse, add body and enhance waves for a natural, tousled look. I love the smell, too. It's a super fresh, light grapefruit oatmeal fragrance, and it's used in all of their products

Shampoo and conditioner is a given key to great hair, but I like to go the extra step. That's where the Sea Spray and Texture Cream come in. Sea spray is great for those days where you want to look effortless but adequately tousled (also, fun fact, I love that word). You can spray it on dry or wet hair, which makes it both a versatile and easy product to add into your routine. It's infused with natural sea salt and smoothing moisturizers, plus it's super lightweight.

Sea Texture Cream refreshes hair to create instant volume with touchable hold. It weightlessly enhances natural texture on any tousled, beachy or “undone” look. You can use it with or without the sea spray, which is more often than not just a matter of how much time I have. I like to run just a touch through my hair after I've finished curling, keeping everything in place. The biggest thing I love? It's not crunchy.

A huge thanks to Verb for sharing their new collection with me. If your hair is stuck in a rut and you're looking for something new, definitely check out this brand. I have a running list of all the things I want to try next, like their Dry Shampoo and Ghost Oil. Each product page has a video showing you how to properly use each item, which is such a huge bonus. The products are so fun and upbeat, and your hair and wallet will thank you, too.
