Falling in Love with Byredo

Falling in Love with Byredo

Friends, it's that time of year once again. Everything is a sea of pink and red, with hopeless romantics like me swooning at the sight of all the heart-shaped things. My love of Valentine's Day runs deep, from conversation hearts and the exchanging of cards in school, to romantic date nights out and bouquets of roses. Let's not forget layering in a sexy fragrance, either.

I've long used Valentine's Day as an excuse to spoil myself. I especially can't help it when my favorite beauty brands release limited-edition products for the occasion (Byredo, I'm looking at you)! As I've mentioned before, I'm obsessed with all things Byredo and their luxe, minimalistic ways. Both their personal fragrances and candles capture a perfect mood or sense of place, and can stir up all kinds of memories. With Valentine's Day in mind, here are my top three fragrances inspired by the most romantic holiday of the year.

Rose Noir | This is the quintessential rose fragrance for the deeply romantic. It pairs well with date nights by candlelight. The traditional olfactory rose, the Damascena, is made potent and contemporary once again by darkening its character. It is a decadent, dirty rose with an intense and animalic quality.

Top: Cardamom, Freesia, Grapefruit, Red Berries
Heart: Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Raspberry, Rose Damascena, Violet
Base: Cistus Labdanum, Moss, Musk, Patchouli

Rose of No Man's Land | This is the very first fragrance that I fell in love with by Byredo. I was instantly hooked by the fresh, light rose notes that were reminiscent of spring. It is a true contrast to Rose Noir. I love the inspiration behind this fragrance, as it is a loving tribute to the nurses (often referred to by soldiers as Rose of No Man's Land) who saved thousands of lives on the front lines of WWI.

Top: Pink Pepper, Turkish Rose Petals
Heart: Raspberry Blossom, Turkish Rose Absolute
Base: Papyrus, White Amber

1996 | This fragrance is a special collaboration between Byredo and photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The inspiration behind the scent comes from a photograph captured by them titled "Kirsten 1996". It's starts off pretty cool, but melts into this wonderfully warm and sexy fragrance the envelops you like a intense embrace.

Top: Black Pepper, Juniper Berries
Heart: Leather Accord, Orris, Violet
Base: Black Amber, Patchouli, Vanilla

If I haven't quite sold you on any one particular fragrance, fear not. Byredo's La Sélection set contains a curated selection of the brand's best-selling fragrances. This six-piece collection comes packaged in travel-friendly 12ml vials and includes the following scents:

  • Bal D'Afrique
  • Black Saffron
  • Blanche
  • Gypsy Water
  • Mojave Ghost (another personal favorite of mine)
  • Rose Of No Man's Land.

I was really excited about this set because it gave me a chance to experiment with fragrances I  had never tried before and I found myself falling in LOVE with Black Saffron and Gypsy Water.  Plus, I love having travel sizes of some of my favorite scents.

Now for the irresistible part of this fragrance set. It pairs perfectly with Byredo's limited edition I Love You Travel Perfume Case. This light grey leather case is stamped with a sweet message in silver foil and stands as a reminder to yourself or someone you love. It's got a magnetic snap-on top, keeping your fragrance nice and secure.

I hope I've inspired and enchanted you with some of my most-loved scents from the brand. Byredo commands the attention of the fragrance scene in a big way, and I can't help but be totally entranced. Thank you again, Byredo, for feeding my addiction.
