Our little urban oasis is finally open for business! Well, more like open for extreme relaxation, good conversation over dinner, and lots of wine. Even though I've been at the same place for two years now, it wasn't until a few months ago that the deck became a priority. I really wanted it to be an extension of the home, and immediately took to ordering a rug, cafe lights, various hanging baskets, and my personal favorite, rose bushes!
It's amazing what a little greenery can do to an outdoor living space. I picked up a few gorgeous rose bushes from our local nursery in West Seattle. There is literally no end to the variety this nursery offers when it comes to roses. They only get one large shipment in every spring, though, so you have to go select them early otherwise you might not get what you are after! After much back and fourth, I landed upon a vibrant lilac colored rose that has extremely large blooms, and a deep burgundy rose that blooms in little trios on each branch. They both have such wonderful scents and should bloom throughout the summer.
I also have a couple of potted mini roses from Trader Joe's. They're only $4.99, and come planted in a decorative pot! What more could you ask for? The pots and roses are available in an array of colors. I'd pick one up every time I went grocery shopping if I had the space for them all! My roses have all been repotted in white pots from Ikea to really let the color of the rose shine.
Trader Joe's is also a great place to pick up herb plants. At $1.99 each, they're cheaper than the packages of cut herbs, and if cared for correctly, will last you much longer. I'm currently on a quest to find the perfect vertical planter for all of my little herb plants to save a little space on the deck, any suggestions?! I also snagged some citronella candles from my local Marshalls for a couple bucks. They are a welcome addition for warding off bugs and adding a little drama and romance to the space.
This sweatshirt says it all! Wildfox makes some fun fleece pullovers that are perfect for those casual evenings on the deck. They're extremely soft, and I love a sweatshirt with extra long sleeves for curling up in. Not to mention it's my favorite neon shade of pink.
Between entertaining with friends and date nights at home, Adam and I have spent quite a bit of time outside enjoying our revamped outdoor space. Here in Seattle, it's such a luxury to have an outdoor area. With all the new construction cramming multiple houses on tiny lots, it's becoming more and more of a rarity. My fool-proof plan for the summer? Kicking back with a glass of wine and dining alfresco.
Have a wine-filled weekend, lovelies!
